l Sistema de Enseñanza Abierta y a Distancia que utiliza el Instituto Internacional del Pacífico se creó en 1978 para ofrecer servicios educativos de nivel superior para la Columbia Foreign University, en la modalidad que se denominó "Off Campus", y posteriormente dicha franquicia fue adquirida por distintas organizaciones de Educación Media y Superior y por nuestra institución.
El Instituto Internacional del Pacífico, es un emprendimiento educativo que conlleva muchos años de estudio e investigación sobre el aprendizaje, y está Reconocido y Autorizado por el Gobierno de Panamá, a través del Resuelto No.6221, firmado por la Ministra de Educación de Panamá (Meduca), y todos sus programas están autorizados por el Ministerio de Educación de Panamá, lo que les da validez internacional, a través de los Convenios Bilaterales (por ejemplo con España), y los Regionales como el Convenio Regional de Convalidación de Estudios, Titulos y Diplomas de Educación Superior en América Latina y el Caribe, conocido como Convenio Andrés Bello, firmado por 23 países de América.
A lo largo de 31 años se ha enriquecido la operación del Sistema, mejorando las estrategias pedagógicas y su forma de atención con la incorporación de recursos tecnológicos, permitiéndole reorientar y consolidar su práctica educativa a través de la diversificación de los servicios por Internet, logrando así ampliar la cobertura de atención a panameños y latinoamericanos que radican en la República de Panamá,en los Estados Unidos y en Europa.
